British drivers are paying far less for their motor insurance than fellow motorists in Northern Ireland, according to a new report.
Motor insurance premiums in the UK were found to be ten per cent lower than in Northern Ireland in a car new insurance comparison by the AA, the BBC writes.
These higher premiums in Northern Ireland had been put down to the supposed higher incidence of crime and civil unrest in the country, but a recent Endsleigh study found that 30 per cent less cars were stolen in Belfast than in the rest of the UK.
Similarly, the study revealed that motorists driving in Belfast were less likely to be in an accident than in other UK cities.
"The County Court will confirm that there are very few claims these days going to court compared to many years ago," Gerry Lee of the Motor Accident Solicitors Society told the BBC.
The reason for this is that the insurance industry and many of the claimants' solicitors are able to settle a lot of claims, meaning that "insurance companies are quite happy to pay these awards".
Mr Lee added that some car insurance companies in Northern Ireland have started to bring down the cost of their motor insurance premiums.
